Inclusion Services

Inclusion Services is a partnership between Community Living Thunder Bay and the Corporation of the City of Thunder Bay. This service is open to anyone in Thunder Bay. We offer limited FREE support to people of all ages with disabilities in activities at the following facilities:

Canada Games Complex, Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre & Herb Carroll 55 Plus Centre, Volunteer Pool & Sir Winston Churchill Community Pool, community centres, and golf (Municipal, Strathcona, and Chapples). Call 625-3220 or e-mail SHolloway@thunderbay.ca for more information.

Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL) Card

The Personal Attendant for Leisure (PAL) Card can be used by a person with a disability to get their support person in for free when using facilities that accept the PAL card. Download a PAL card application or call 625-3220 or e-mail sholloway@thunderbay.ca to receive one in the mail.

All City-run programs that are registered through the Victoriaville Civic Centre @ 625-8463 are covered by the PAL Card. Several non-City-operated facilities and services in Thunder Bay also accept the PAL Card.

If you are a user of City Transit and require a support person when riding City Transit, please contact the Transit offices at 684-3744 for information on how to have your support person ride with you for free. 

Junior Inclusion Services (J.I.S.)

Junior Inclusion Services provides limited FREE one-to-one support to children and youth with disabilities who use the summer recreation programs (offered during July and August). The programs are:

Tools for play

The Recreation & Culture Division has a ton of different recreation equipment that you can borrow for FREE from Ogden Community Centre by calling 625-3220. We have all-terrain wheelchairs, parachutes, balls, pylons, racquets, rubber chickens, and lots of other fun stuff too!

 

Recorded Version of The Key

The Key is available on tape cassette and CD. It is recorded and released at the same time as the printed version of The Key. You can pick a copy up at Brodie Street Library, Waverley Resource Library, County Park Library, Mary J.L. Black Library, and the Victoriaville Civic Centre. You can also be put on a mailing list to receive a copy of the recorded version of 'The Key' in the mail by calling 625-3220 or emailing SHolloway@thunderbay.ca. Once you are on this list you will receive the recorded version when the printed version of 'The Key' is delivered, four times a year. Please note that the recorded version only includes the Community Services section of The Key and not the other sections.

Goalball

Goalball is a game played by two teams with blindfolds and a ball with a bell in it. This is a fun sport and a great workout!  Equipment is provided - all you need are indoor shoes and the willingness to try a new and exciting sport! For some information on the rules of this game, follow this link to Wikipedia. Games are played at Ogden Community Centre and are scheduled for Saturday Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Dec. 10 from 12 noon - 2 pm.  There are also Wednesday night games on Sept. 28 and Oct. 26 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Check out the Fall 2011 edition of The Key for more details. To get involved with the the Thunder Bay Goalball League call 625-3220 or e-mail puppycat@tbaytel.net.

sledge hockey

Sledge Hockey is played from a sledge that you can move around the ice using picks. The equipment is available in Thunder Bay, so come out and get into this great sport! DOWNHILL SKIING

Ontario Track 3 is a non-profit volunteer organization aimed at teaching youth with cognitive or physical disabilities to downhill ski. Sessions will run once a week for 7 weeks at Mount Baldy beginning January 2012. For more information on registering a student or becoming a volunteer instructor (no teaching experience required) contact Jessica at jabdelma@lakeheadu.ca.
