The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay begins its tour through Thunder Bay Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. Celebrate the Olympic Spirit with activities throughout the day. Thunder Bay’s Torch Relay begins at 5:45 pm and arrives at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium at 7 pm. The Community Celebration will be a day of family fun to remember.

Free admission to all activities!

Sunday, Jan 3

Activities at the Complex & Norwester Park
1-5 pm     Free Swim
1 pm        Thunder Bay ThunderBolts demonstrations and clinics
1 pm        Lappe Nordic/Kamview Nordic/Big Thunder Nordic Clubs demonstrations and clinics
3 pm        Thunder Bay Diving Club demonstrations and clinics

Activities at the Port Arthur Arena
1 pm        Thunder Bay Figure Skating Club show
2 pm        Thunder Bay Women’s Hockey exhibition game
3:30-5 pm Free public skating

Community Auditorium
3-5:30 pm Refreshments and displays

Monday, Jan. 4

8:30 am Torch Relay continues - Fort William First Nation
8:50 am Bombardier Transportation on Montreal Street. The Relay will travel through southwest Thunder Bay then
             Kakebeka Falls.

Park and Ride

Free shuttle service to and from the Community Auditorium.
Shuttles depart from 4-6 pm on a load-and-go basis from:
  • Lakehead University (off Balmoral)
  • Intercity Mall (near Zellers)

Shuttles return after the event. Thunder Bay Transit is 100% accessible.

Parking

  • Parking is extremely limited, plan accordingly.
  • Limited parking for impaired mobility permits is available.
  • Other parking restrictions in effect. Watch for signage.

Road Closures

  • Rolling road closures will be in effect along the route on Jan. 3 & 4. Expect traffic delays.
  • Winnipeg Avenue from Beverly Street to Inchiquin Street will be closed from 1 pm – 8:30 pm.
  • Only buses, taxis, people with impaired mobility permits, emergency vehicles and local residents will be allowed access to Winnipeg Ave.
