All are invited to this meeting to discuss the Centre’s operation. After many years of dedicated service, the volunteers who have been handling the Centre's programming and scheduling have stepped down. As a result, the Community Centre is now without a volunteer board of directors to run the facility.
We are looking for people interested and willing to help with Jackpine C.C.'s operation. One of the immediate issues involves the Centre’s winter outdoor rink. In the past, the rink has been cared for by people hired and directed by the Centre’s volunteer board of directors. These workers maintain the rink, as well as open the Community Centre during specific hours so that users have a warm facility available. In order for the rink to be open this winter, an individual or group needs to come forward to look after its operation.
Community centres in Thunder Bay function through the decisions made by their volunteer board of directors. The board members discuss the business of the Centre and guide its operation. Through a partnership with the City of Thunder Bay Recreation & Culture Division, community centres offer recreation programs and services for the public as well as provide space for other community activities.
