Hillcrest Park's location on the ridge overlooking central Thunder Bay provides one of the finest scenic outlooks over the city. Ample parking allows the view to be enjoyed any time of year from your vehicle. Thunder Bay's harbour, grain elevators and the Sleeping Giant are popular subjects for photos.
The Park also features the unique Sunken Gardens, with a spectacular seasonal display of more than 70 varieties of flowers.
The Gardens and surrounding park are very popular for wedding pictures.
Hillcrest Park's War Memorial features a Universal Carrier, the workhorse of the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) during World War II. The adjacent honour roll lists names of those killed in action during the war.
Hillcrest Park features an accessible playground, styled to mimic the natural surroundings of the park. Equipment is easily accessed from ground level. There is a kids' garden area in the centre of the playground. Come and try out the an Oodle Swing – a multi-person rocker that allows for views of the Sleeping Giant while playing.
