Off-Leash Dog Area

The City of Thunder Bay maintains two Off-Leash Areas for our canine residents and their owners to enjoy year-round. Carrick Street Dog Park Map

1. Located off Central Avenue between Memorial and 8th Avenue, this site is approximately 1.45 hectares (3.5 acres) and is bound by natural buffers and drainage ditches. To access this off-leash dog area, turn north off Central Avenue at Carrick Street, the park is located behind Kal Tire.

2. Located in a former ball diamond south of Port Arthur Stadium on the corner of Beverly Street and Winnipeg Avenue, this site is approximately .58 hectares (1.4 acres). The interior fenced area (ball field) is designed for smaller breeds, handicapped and senior dogs seven years and older. The outer fenced area has a separate entrance and is designed for all breeds/sizes.

 

Off-Leash Dog Area Rules & Regulations

  1. Open 6 am to 11 pm.  (Park By-law #45-1972)
  2. Use the off-leash area at your own risk.
  3. Up-to-date vaccinations and license tags required
  4. No puppies under four months, female dogs in heat, sick dogs or aggressive/out of control dogs
  5. Leash your dog while entering and exiting the are
  6. It is recommended that dogs be exercised prior to entering park
  7. No glass containers or toys allowed.  
  8. Children under 10 years of age must be supervised by an adult
  9. Off-leash area users are subject to the Dog Owners Liability Act.
  10. Fill the holes your dog digs
  11. Clean up after your dog. Always remember to Scoop your Poop!
