Skater rides a rail as others eagerly await their turn
The Plaza was built by Natural Stone and Tile of Thunder Bay, with some specialty concrete work completed by New Line Skate Parks. The Plaza features a unique combination of word-class skateboarding terrain, locally inspired art installations and casual socializing space. It will be set within a vibrant landscape detail designed to capture the spirit of Thunder Bay's renewed Waterfront vision.

Within the development, three destinct areas (bowl, plaza and entrance) offer a range of varied features and materials designed to accommodate each specific skateboarding style/ability while providing excellent passive spectator opportunities.

Specific design highlights include:

  • Nearly 25,000 sq. ft total area
  • A completely customized skatable re-creation of the Sleeping Giant
  • Use of local stone work on key ledges and walls
  • An authentic "Classic California" style pool bowl
  • Seemless integration of the entire development into the surrounding park and trail system

Once completed, the Plaza will be a significant regional facility in terms of quality of design, detailing and position within premiere urban public space.
