Summer in the Parks Concert Line-up Announced

June 25, 2007 – The Recreation & Culture Division today announced another fantastic lineup of live entertainment for the 2007 Summer in the Parks concert season.  Nine outdoor concerts featuring new acts as well as returning favourites are planned. All concerts, presented by Tim Hortons, will be held at the newly improved festival and events area in Marina Park on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 pm beginning June 27 - Aug.22.

“Summer in the Parks has become a Thunder Bay tradition that showcases some of best musical entertainment,” said Barb Magbanua, Summer in the Parks Coordinator. “We have worked with our Advisory Committee to bring a total of 27 acts of all styles and genres to the stage. They are sure to please audiences of all tastes.”

The stage will come to life June 27, when the Roy Coran Big Band kicks off the concert season.  For over 30 years, these accomplished musicians have opened the Summer in the Parks season.  Also joining the stage on opening night will be newcomers John Booth and the South Side Band with rhythm and blues favourites followed by Steve Clark and the Hoolies playing hits from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

For the first time ever, Summer in the Parks will feature a country theme night on Aug. 1. Country fans can catch the sounds of Hansen & Company, Scott Van Teeffelen & the Backroads Band, and Scott Skirving & Skyward as they bring their high energy stage shows to the Waterfront.

In addition to great music, Summer in the Parks evenings feature children’s activities, free draws and a variety of on-site concessions.  The Downtown Heart of the Harbour BIA will offer “Art of the Harbour,” displaying and selling art in the park during the concert series.  “Caricatures for Charity” will also be returning to raise money for Shelter House.

To avoid traffic congestion on Wednesday nights at Marina Park, concert-goers are strongly encouraged to take advantage of City Transit, car pool, walk or ride their bikes.
