Sleeping Giant Featured in 2008 Great Ontario Outdoor Adventure Campaign

December 12, 2007 – Thunder Bay residents and holiday visitors are invited to stop by The Terry Fox Visitor Information Centre for a complimentary copy of the 2008 Great Ontario Outdoor Adventure calendar featuring Ontario Parks’ Sleeping Giant and rediscover the great holiday events and activities our city and region have to offer.

Tourism Thunder Bay has partnered with the Strategic Tourism Development and Marketing Partnership for Northern Ontario which includes Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation, Industry Canada / FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to launch the 2008 Great Ontario Outdoor Adventure of a Lifetime campaign.  Ontario Parks and a host of others join the Partnership in this unique endeavor.

On the heels of CBC’s Seven Wonders of Canada competition, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is the featured destination for one lucky party of four to explore both the iconic park and the Thunder Bay area. The contest includes return airfare to Thunder Bay, five days exploring the Giant with famed outdoor photographers Gary and Joannie McGuffin, a Nikon Canada digital camera package, two nights’ accommodation at the Valhalla Inn, a week’s car rental from Enterprise, a tour of Fort William Historical Park, a Lake Superior Sail Charter with Sail Superior, a floatplane adventure over the Giant and the National Marine Conservation Area by Wilderness North, and culinary experiences at some of Thunder Bay’s legendary establishments including Caribou.

“We are proud to have developed this fantastic marketing partnership with our Provincial and Federal tourism industry partners,” said Paul Anthony Pepe, Manager of Tourism - City of Thunder Bay. “There is no doubt that this campaign will firmly place Thunder Bay in the minds of outdoor adventure seekers as a city that is “Superior by Nature. This campaign is the culmination of the creative and generous contributions of many partners who have come together to showcase our unique culture and exceptional outdoor experiences.”

The contest runs from Jan.11 – May 31, 2008.  A launch event to release the calendar will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at the Terry Fox Visitor Information Center.
