Welcome to the Thunder Bay Police Service

J.P. Levesque - Chief of Police
Each year we gather with friends and family to celebrate Christmas and the year gone bye. On behalf of the members of the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Police Services Board, we hope this will be a happy holiday season for you.
One of the best ways to make this a safe season is to plan ahead. If you are going to indulge in a drink, don’t get behind the wheel! Take a cab, bus or have a designated driver. No one wants a tragedy this holiday season, especially when it could be prevented.
As we look ahead to 2012, your police service will continue to proudly serve the communities of Thunder Bay and Oliver Paipoonge. All the best for a healthy and safe new year!
J.P. Levesque

About the Thunder Bay Police Service:
The Thunder Bay Police Service came into existence in 1970 when the former Cities of Fort William and Port Arthur along with the Municipalities of Neebing and McIntyre amalgamated to form the City of Thunder Bay. The service is mandated with providing a vast array of policing services and is committed to meeting the needs of the community on a daily basis. That mandate expanded in 1999, when the service was contracted to provide policing services to our neighbours in the Municipality of Oliver- Paipoonge.
Located at the head of the St. Lawrence Seaway, on the shores of Lake Superior, Thunder Bay and Oliver-Paipoonge are proudly served by the 315 members that are the Thunder Bay Police Service. Thunder Bay is the hub community for Northwestern Ontario serving many people from the far north and our surrounding region.
The men and women of this Police Service are the most valuable resource that we have. Without properly trained, sensitive and dedicated people we could not provide the level of service our citizens have come to expect. We plan to ensure that the members of the Thunder Bay Police Service receive the skills and knowledge needed to maintain high quality service for our communities.
The Thunder Bay Police Service adheres to a philosophy of community based policing. We value our ability to connect with the citizens we serve by practicing this philosophy each and every day. In these challenging times we continue to work towards being a leader in policing for Northwestern Ontario.
