The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to remind the citizens of Thunder Bay  and Oliver Paipoonge of these important tips when using 911:

Call 911 When:

  • There is a crime in progress
  • For crimes of a serious nature such as a sudden death, a serious accident involving injuries, an assault in progress, robbery, weapons, etc
  • For any recently committed crime in which there is a high probability that the suspect can be apprehended at or near the scene of the crime
  • For any bona fide threat to life, serious physical injury or major property incident in progress

Communications CentreWhen you call 911:

  • Stay calm
  • The operator will ask you what service you need: Fire, Ambulance or Police
  • The call is connected to the appropriate service and the service is dispatched
  • Be prepared to give your name, address, exactly what has happened, a description of the accused (if there is one), mode and direction of travel if the suspect has left the scene and any injuries or weapons involved
  • Remember to stay on the line until you are asked to hang up by the operator
