Traffic Unit

The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit is a proactive unit in that its Staff Sergeant, Sergeant and 6 members are involved in several community groups related to traffic initiatives. These include C-TAC, SNOWPAC, MADD and City Engineering to name a few.

The Traffic Unit also conducts several traffic stop programs throughout the year, including RIDE, RED LIGHT, SEAT BELT and COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS.

The Traffic Unit is continually upgrading its training in relation to enforcement, equipment and collision investigation. In conjunction with this, the general patrol officers are also being given upgraded training in traffic enforcement techniques and equipment.
