Tourism Thunder Bay operates two Information Centres for the convenience of the travelling public: The Terry Fox Tourist Information Centre as you enter Thunder Bay from the east on Highway 11/17, and the Pagoda by the Thunder Bay North waterfront at Red River Road and Water Street.
Located on Highway 11/17 one kilometre east of Hodder Avenue, the Terry Fox Tourist Information Centre operates year-round. The Centre offers tourists picnic tables, a wheelchair accessible building, public washrooms, payphone, and vending machines. During peak-season, June 15 to Sept. 7, the Centre is open 8:30 am - 7:30 pm, 7 days a week. In the off-season (Sept. - June), the Centre is open 9 am - 5 pm, 7 days a week, and closed on statutory holidays. Tel: (807) 983-2041 or 1-800-667-8386.
The Terry Fox Monument is located adjacent to the Centre. The monument is a 9 foot high bronze statue, set on a 45 ton granite base with a foundation of local amethyst, commanding a breathtaking view of Lake Superior. The statue was erected in memory of Terry Fox, the courageous one-legged runner who in 1980 embarked on a cross-country run for cancer research - The Marathon of Hope.
Thunder Bay's Tourist "Pagoda" can rightfully claim its place in history as Canada's oldest continuously operating tourist bureau. This oriental-themed structure dates back to 1909 when the Port Arthur Industrial Commission decided to erect a building to be used as a publicity bureau and advertising headquarters to attract tourists arriving from the east and west by ship and train. Among its modern neighbours and overlooking Thunder Bay's marina, the Pagoda continues to greet in its 100th year.
Located in the Thunder Bay's north end downtown on the corner of Water Street and Red River Road, the Pagoda information centre opens at the beginning of June and closes after Labour Day. The centre is open Tuesday to Saturday 10 am - 6 pm. Tel: (807) 684-3670.

The Centre features picnic tables, playground, public washrooms, and vending machines. Hours/Season: Peak summer season end of June through Labour Day: 8 am to 8 pm daily; Spring, May 15 - end of June: 9 am - 5 pm; Fall, Labour Day - Mid October: 9 am - 5 pm.
