Tourism Thunder Bay's Terry Fox Information Centre remains open through the winter

Fall Chills & Thrills at fort William historical park

The light from the lantern held by the costumed guide bobs ahead as your group weaves its way through the inky blackness.  You make your way through a series of dimly-lit buildings, populated by odd characters.  Then suddenly, a terrified scream right beside you! Who is it? Hairs tingle on the back of your neck .... What's happening???  Welcome to  .... the Haunted Fort Night ........

Just in time for Halloween, the Haunted Fort Night returns October 23rd to 25th and 29th to 31st.  Advance tickets of $10.00 are on sale.  Call (807) 473-2344 to reserve your spot.  Dress accordingly for weather.  The Fort also welcomes volunteers to assist.  Call the Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator Krista Power at (807) 473-2357 for more information.

Celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends during the Thanksgiving Buffet happening Sunday, October 11th, in McGillvray's Landing.  Savour a tantalizing and varied menu.  For more information, call the Travelodge Airlane Hotel at (807) 473-1605, for reservations.

Rogue Productions presents The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Victor Hugo's classic tale of gypsy girl Esmeralda and misshapen bell ringer, Quasimodo.  The production runs from October 2nd to 4th & 8th to 10th.  Tickers are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.  Advance purchases can be made in person at the Fort's Visitor Centre, 8:30 to 5:00pm daily.

Looking ahead, the Fort presents the Artisan Fair and Workshops, Friday November 14th and Saturday November 15th.  Shop for unique gifts or create one by hand yourself under the guidance of an experienced craftsperson.  Meet artisans from all over the region.  Call (807) 473-2344 for vending info and workshop registration.  Admission is $5.00, children age 5 and younger are free.

Daily tours are happening until October 12th.  Take advantage of our Community Day admission rate of just $5.00 every Sunday.  Tours departs every hour.  The Fort is open from 10am to 5pm daily, with the final tour departing at 4pm.

Paramount Theatre Opens their doors 

Paramount Theatre at 24 Court St S have opened their doors.  Paramount theatre showcases 2 classic movies at 7pm and 9pm each week.  Here is October's weekly Line-up:

On October 9th, Paramount Theatre will be hosting a tribute to Patrick Swazye in Support of the Northern Cancer Foundation,  They will be playing The Outsider at 6pm, Dirty Dancing at 8pm, and Ghost at 10pm.  $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to the Northern Cancer Fund. 

Between October 15-17th at 6:00pm and 11:30pm, Paramount Theatre will be joining forces with Shelter House Thunder Bay for Food for Fun Fall Festival, a fundraiser and food drive in support of Shelter House.  The three day event includes many local performances from dance groups to magicians and musicians!  Admission is free for all ages but attendees are asked to make a cash donation or a donation of a non-perishable food item prior to the performance they wish to attend.  Performers include Sunday Wilde, Natural Process, ADHD, Miracles Await, Dance Dynamics, and many, many more.

Cambrian Players presents "Halo" written by Josh MacDonald and directed by Kathryn Ferrazzo between November 12th-14th, and 19th-21st at the Paramount Theatre at 24 Court Street South.  Come out to see how life in Nately, Nova Scotia is forever changed when as image of Jesus Christ appears on the side of a Tim Horton's Restaurant.  The town inhabitants are challenged to ask difficult questions about faith, hope, and customer service with sometimes moving, sometimes hilarious results.  Tickets are $10 for the Preview show on November 12th with tickets available at the door only, and $15 for the other shows and are available at Fireweed, Steepers or at the door.  Show starts at 8pm.  For more information visit www.cambrianplayers.ca.

  • October 16 - The Harvest Moon Auction.  Featuring a live art auction, silent auction, hors d'houvres and desserts and live music.
  • Until October 18 - Honouring: Birch Bark, Beads, and Baskets, From the Permanent Collection.
  • Until November 15 - The Limnology Project: An Exploration of our region.   Featuring Leslie Shaw, Luke Nicol, and Klaus Rossler, three solo shows by artists of the Lake Superior Region in their study of physical, chemical, meteorological and biological conditions of bodies of fresh water, and by extension ... it can also be constructed as the emotional and aesthetic response to the same conditions.

  • Until October 31st:  Daily Watercolour Classes with Artist in Residence, Peter Humeniuk.  Students will have fun learning to paint loose, uninhibited way, producing fresh and spontaneous watercolour paintings (as opposed to paintings merely executed with watercolour pigment).  Classes will be between 10am and 5pm.
  • Until October 17th:  Pirates, Tall Ships and Gypsy Princess.  Art class for the 6-9 year old imagination.  Children will learn about and construct simplified tall ships and learn some basic colour theory through a variety of art activities related to the theme.  Classes run between 1-3pm.
  • October 16 to December 21: Digital Fine Arts Exhibits - Theme - Trans ...  Digital Fine Art Society of Thunder Bay (DFAST) and the Lake Superior Art Gallery are proud to announce their collaboration in the newest exhibition titled "Absolute Devitation: Where the Value of the Difference is Realized".  The gala opening will be held on October 16th from 7-10pm with the artists in attendance.
  • October 17/18:  Fall Colours Watercolour Workshop.  Learn how to paint vibrant watercolours with "Big Brush" watercolour instructor Peter Humeniuk.  The workshop will run between 9am and 5pm.
  • October 19 to December 7: Acrylic Painting on Canvas.  You will learn how to adapt some watercolour techniques to acrylic and some methods adapted from oil painting with instructor Peggy Moran.  Classes will take place between 6-9:30pm.
  • October 25: Meet the Author and Artists.  Lake Superior Art Gallery is providing you with an opportunity to meet Thunder Bay's Authors and Artists who will be available to sign their books, art and music and provide you with a chance to Give a Gift to Local Culture.  The event will take place between 1:30 - 4:30pm.
  • October 30/31: Into the Wild Photography Workshop.  Meet Gary and Joanie McGuffin and learn how they captured the spectacular images in their new book "Quetico Into The Wild".  The presentation will be between 2-4pm and 7-9:30pm.
  • November 21: Everything You wanted to know about getting your book published ... and beyond.  This three hour introductory workshop will be led by best-selling author and journalist/photographer Elle Andra-Warner, owner of River Rocks Publishing.  The workshop will take place between 1-4pm.

The Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is located at 219 May Street South (beside City Hall in downtown Thunder Bay South) features a sports museum of artifacts and photographs and a hall of fame highlighting the achievements of the region’s athletes, builders and teams from a variety of different sports and eras. A sports library and archives are available for researchers and sports fans alike. Open Monday through Friday 12 – 5. Group tours and educational programmes are available by appointment. Planning a trip to the North of Superior Region just got a whole lot easier with the help of the North of Superior Tourism Association’s new website – www.northofsuperior.orgVisitors can learn more about hundreds of regional attractions, resorts, outfitters, accommodations, retailers and restaurants, complete with maps, events calendar and the newest feature, a Travel Cart. The Travel Cart allows visitors to save information and create personalized travel bundles or itineraries, and request information from each of the selected members. The website also features last minute travel deals and information about regional towns and cities.

Chenier Fine Arts regular hours are Tuesday to Friday 11am – 5pm and Saturday 11am to 4pm and by appointment.
