TOurism Thunder Bay Visitor Centres summer hours

Tourism Thunder Bay invites you to visit one of our 2 local information centres for information on new things to see and do.  The Pagoda Information Centre will be open from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday thru Saturday.  The Terry Fox Information Centre will be extending their hours from 8:30am to 7:30pm, daily.  For more information visit or call (807) 983-2041.

Fort William Historical Park Offers Exciting July Line-up

Enjoy both music and sleeping under the stars during Fort WIlliam Historical Park's exciting concert package in July.

Savour the nostalgia of "Retrofest" July 24th and 25th, featuring Chubby Checker, the Platters, the Marvelettes, Bill Haley's Comets and Doug and the Slugs.  Enjoy the concerts, and then camp out overnight at the Fort's amphitheatre.  Rates vary for power ($42 for two nights) and non-power ($32 for two nights).

Advance admission package includes both concerts: $15 (plus GST) foro adults and $10 for children age 3 to 12 and free for kids age two and under.  At the gate: $30, adults; $20 children age 3 to 12.

Sign up for the "sell and swap" Marketplace happening every Sunday from noon to 4pm.  Complemented by on-stage entertainment.  "Community Days" offer discount admission of $5 on Sundays, including July 5th & 19th and during The Great Rendezvous, July 9th-13th (Sunday July 12th).

Celebrate Canada Day, July 1st, with free admission, free Canada Day Cake and free youth T-shirts (limited quantities).

The Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority will be holding the following 2 events for the month of July:
July 12 - Family Fishing Day from 9am to 3pm at Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area.  No fishing license required for Canadian Residents.  Fishing rods available to borrow.  Free fishing rods to the first 48 kids (age 12 and under) in attendance.  Workshops, displays, concession.  Admission $2/vehicle.
July 19 - Lake Superior Day Family Picnic from 1-4pm at Neebing-McIntyre Floodway at Fort William Road (across from CLE Grounds).  Fundraising BBQ, historical display about Floodway, water rescue demonstrations, canoe rides, kids face painting, FREE Cake.

During the Month of July Magnus Theatre invite those aged 6-9, 10-13, and 14-18 to take part in one of this years Acting classes - summer sessions.  Magnus Theatre's Summer Drama Camp provides a unique opportunity to participate in the excitement of the theatrical process.  Their classes aim to stimulate the imagination, promote self-expression and develop self-confidence.  Camps will run during Monday to Friday during the weeks of July 6-17 for those aged 6-9 (Junior) and 10-13 (Intermediate), and for those aged 14-18 (Teen) the camp will run between July 20-31st.  Below is a brief description of each camp.  For more information or to register for the camps visit their website at or call (807) 345-5552.
Junior (Age 6-9): Through story-telling, role-playing, creative movement, and theatre games, the Junior session offers children the opportunity to experience and learn about theatre in a fun and creative way.  Participants will create their own play and present it for an invited audience on the last day of the session.
Intermediate (Age 10-13): The intermediate session offers young people the opportunity to experience the excitement of theatre through the theatre games, character development, improvisation, and creative movement.  Participants will create their own play and present it for an invited audience on the last day of the session.
Teen (Age 14-18): this two-week session is an exciting venture into the world of theatre.  The youth will work on a variety of theatre skills, including character work, voice, movement, improvisation and acting techniques.  They will also work on a script which they will present as a public performance on the last day of the session.

The Sports Dome invites those aged 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-13 to take part in their "The Sports Dome Summer Kids Camp" starting July 6th.  The camp includes activities such as Volleyball, Arts & Crafts, Baseball, Jewellry and Bead making, Basketball, Dance Soccer, Swim, Tetherball, Dodgeball, Co-operative games, Flag Football, Parachute Games, Ultimate Frisbee, Music and much more.  Camps run from 9am - 4pm for 7 weeks starting on July 6th running until August 28.  For more information visit or call (807) 625-0110.

The Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is located at 219 May Street South (beside City Hall in downtown Thunder Bay South) features a sports museum of artifacts and photographs and a hall of fame highlighting the achievements of the region’s athletes, builders and teams from a variety of different sports and eras. General Tourist Information

Planning a trip to the North of Superior Region just got a whole lot easier with the help of the North of Superior Tourism Association’s new website – www.northofsuperior.orgVisitors can learn more about hundreds of regional attractions, resorts, outfitters, accommodations, retailers and restaurants, complete with maps, events calendar and the newest feature, a Travel Cart. The Travel Cart allows visitors to save information and create personalized travel bundles or itineraries, and request information from each of the selected members. The website also features last minute travel deals and information about regional towns and cities. Since going "live" in late February of this year, the site has had 347,587 page views, 6842 click-throughs to NOSTA member websites and sent 1247 visitor enquiries directly to NOSTA members (as of March 14, 2009). And these numbers are increasing every day!

Chenier Fine Arts, the purple gallery at 8 Court Street South showcases a diverse selection of original art created by established and emerging Canadian, regional and international artists.  Featured in July is artwork by ten new gallery artists : Claude Weisbuch, Nathalie Verdier, Lili Richard, Shwan, Hannah Alpha, David Schneur, Samuel Tepler, Slava Tchistilina, Claude Simard and Christine Amarger. See Shane Norrie's summer pottery collection, "White Coral" and his new small mixed media resin coated paintings on wood. Local jewelery artist Anne Winkworth is exhibiting her summer art to wear collection, "Kinky Kopper" - fibre, glass & bead jewelery. On display are new paintings by gallery artists Paule Lagace, H. Jou Lee, Sacha, Astrid Denelle, Yvon Breton, George Turia, Santiago Panachini, Lise Tremblay, Michele-Anne Brosseau, Baucan, Anne Marrec and Mathias Muleme. View over 250 hand selected original artworks by over 95 artists. Styles represented range from abstract and contemporary to classic and transitional. Mediums include paintings, mixed media, original prints, Shane Norrie pottery, sculpture, and art jewellery.  Chenier Fine Arts offers professional custom picture framing services and informative consultations. Art on Paper is preserved by using Conservation Framing - acid free materials, rag mats and boards, and UV protecting glass to help keep the art from fading and damage.
