Terry Fox Information Centre Open Through Winter
Visit the Terry Fox Information Centre for information on new things to see and do during the winter months. The Information Centre will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, closed on statutory holidays. For more information, visit or call (807) 983-2041.

New Walking Tours of The City of Thunder Bay
The Heritage Advisory Committee has recently developed four new self-guided walking tours around Thunder Bay for both visitors and residents alike. Enjoy a leisurely scenic walk around Thunder Bay while learning about Thunder Bay’s rich heritage and architecture. All Four walking Tours including a photograph and write up of each site is available for viewing. Also available are downloadable brochures of each tour plus quantities of each brochure can be picked up at City Hall. For more information, visit

Winter Fun at Gammondale Farm

Gammondale Farm has facilities and activities for everyone year-round including horse-drawn sleigh rides, birthday parties, educational tours, corporate retreats and special events for families, friends, groups, and businesses. Following are upcoming special events at the Farm.

  • March 15 – 19, 11 am - 4 pm: March Break Maple Days
    Enjoy Sleigh rides, Maple Taffy, skating on the pond, farm animals, mazes and more. Bring your own snack or enjoy a hot drink and pancakes with real maple syrup in the Log House for a fee. Event is $10 per person, children under 2 are free.
  • April 3, 11 am – 2 pm: 4th Annual Gammondale Easter Egg Hunt
    Grab a group of friends, family or co-workers for a fun-filled day of activities. Reservations are required. Enjoy a sleigh ride with the Percheron horses, keep warm in the Log House, play pond hockey (helmets required) visit the farm animals and make maple taffy.

Ski the Giant During the Sleeping Giant Loppet
Join Thunder Bay Nordic Trails for the annual Sleeping Giant Loppet at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park on March 6. Take part in the 8 km Mini-loppet, 20 km event or the challenging 50 km event. For more information, visit or call (8070 475-7081.

Family Skate for P.R.O. Kids
On March 19, P.R.O. Kids invite families to the Fort William Gardens for a public skating event with activities for everyone including Thunder Bay’s only Chuck-a-duck game, face painting, games and prizes. Cost is $2 per person, helmets are recommended, and participants must bring their own skates. All proceeds benefit P,R.O Kids which matches children in need with positive recreation opportunities. Thunderwolves Welcomes the Cavendish Cup
Hockey fans don’t miss university hockey at its finest. Thunder Bay welcomes the Cavendish Cup March 25 - 28. The top six university teams in Canada will meet in an exciting seven-day tournament at the Fort William Gardens.

  • March 25 – 27: “Urban Infill Art in the Core” Downtown Exhibition
    Rediscover your North Core through contemporary art! Featuring visual, multi-disciplinary and new media art works by 350+ critically acclaimed international, national, and regional artists including: Lakehead University Visual Art Students/Grads, Confederation College Film/Mulit-media Students, Commercial Galleries/Artist Studios, Gallery Members & more. Exhibit includes 15 downtown locations including empty retail spaces being converted to galleries including “Wearable Art” with living models in the windows.   • March 27, 8 pm - 2 am: One Night! One Massive Event including 30 acts, 18 bands, three DJs, 100 artists, and thousands in raffle/costume prizes (dress-up theme is Super hero/anime). Over 650 people attended this fundraiser for the contemporary arts last year. $8 fee includes entry to all three bar venues - Black Pirates Pub, Jacks & Kilroys.

March Break Day Camps

Kids Go Back in Time at Fort William Historical Park
From March 15 - 19, Fort William Historical Park welcomes all children for a full week of entertaining and educational winter activities. Cost is $110 for days in the following two age groups. For more information visit, e-mail or call (807) 473-2344.

  • 7-9 years of age: Play traditional games, go on a snowshoe hike, make your own paper, learn about winter birding and make a feeder and more.
  • 10 – 12 years of age: Make maple taffy, play traditional games, decorate eggs, create a sea monster, work with the oxen team on the farm and more.


$5 Drop-ins at the Sports Dome
The Sports Dome is offering $5 Drop-ins all winter long. Come and enjoy a game of soccer, badminton, tennis, ball hockey, basketball, dodgeball, volleyball, flag football, or ultimate frisbee! Visit Thunder Bay's largest farmer's market every Saturday between 8 am - 1 pm in the Dove Building on the CLE grounds. Gammondale farm has year round facilities for workshops, meetings, retreats, reunions, picnics, parties and corn roasts. Even outdoor weddings and photos are better now that we have a beautiful black carriage that is pulled by a magnificent black Percheron draft horse. Fort William Historical Park is Open and Active During The Winter Months.
Daily walking tours continue Monday through Friday at 11 am and 2 pm. Tours begin at the Administration Building. Please dress accordingly. Seasonal admission rates apply. Bookings are also available for sleigh and wagon rides, banquets, meetings and conferences, as well as education and community groups.
