A community event is offering residents the chance to mark Earth Day at the Centennial Botanical Conservatory this Wednesday, learning about environmental issues while celebrating the natural world in a beautiful setting.

Running from 6-8pm, the free, family-friendly Earth Day celebration will feature activities designed to engage, educate, and inspire community members around climate action and environmental stewardship.

Curbside waste collection dates will change next week due to the Good Friday statutory holiday, moving to one day earlier for all residents. There will be no collection on Friday, April 3.

The following are the Easter holiday waste collection changes:

Students Mark World Water Day with Hands-On Activities

Local high school students marked World Water Day with hands-on activities, Elder-led learning, and career development opportunities at Confederation College on Wednesday.

Around 200 students visited the World Water Day exhibition, part of the college’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Week. The City of Thunder Bay and Confederation College partnered to organize the exhibition.

Outdoor Rinks Temporarily Closed

Due to warm temperatures over the weekend, the City of Thunder Bay’s outdoor skating rinks are temporarily closed.

With colder weather in the forecast, the City’s Parks & Open Spaces Division will work to reopen skating rinks throughout the week as conditions allow.

Residents can find updated information on the status of their local rink by checking the Outdoor Rinks Map at thunderbay.ca/rinks.

Outdoor rinks are typically open from mid-December through mid-March, dependent on weather conditions.
