Annual Events and Activities

May 1-7 - Emergency Preparedness Week is an annual event that takes place each year during the first full week of May. This national event is coordinated by Public Safety Canada, in close collaboration with the provinces, territories and partners. During Emergency Preparedness Week, activities are organized across Canada to raise awareness of the importance of having: 1) An emergency kit 2) Making an emergency plan 3) Identifying risks in the region. These three simple steps can help Canadians prepare for all types of emergencies.

May 12-24 - Ten Mile Road Race - The Firefighters Ten Mile Road Race was established 1910 in an effort to promote active, healthy lifestyles at the head of the Great Lakes. A community celebration, welcoming runners at all levels, with a premier sporting event at its core. The Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association has been the Title Sponsor since 2004.

July - Home Smoke Alarm Canvass - Our firefighters, from all eight city fire stations, conduct their annual home inspection program. This year's emphasis will be on smoke alarm compliance and fire escape plans. Visiting local fire station crews will conduct home fire safety inspections if asked by the owner or tenants and assist them with any fire safety related matters. The start date for the 2019 program will be in July, and it should be completed by September.

October 9-15 - Fire Prevention Week - This year's theme “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!” works to educate everyone about the different sounds the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make. Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises - a beeping sound or a chirping sound - you must take action..

October - Thanksgiving Dinner - The Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association, along with the Salvation Army, provides hot meals for those in need on Thanksgiving Day at the Shelter House.

November - Toys for Tots Campaign - The Toys for Tots Campaign is a charitable project of the Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association. The mission of Toys for Tots is to ensure that all children living in our community will receive a gift on Christmas Day. This unique and successful initiative on the part of local firefighters is more than 50 years old, and represents a volunteer effort of hundreds of off-duty man hours.

December - Annual Christmas Parade - The Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association will be taking part in the Annual Christmas Parade!
