Covid-19 Update

Thunder Bay Animal Services is committed to ensuring continued care for all animals at the shelter. To ensure we can properly manage the animals and protect the workers who specialize in providing this care, we will be limiting public access to the Centre.

Until further notice, we will no longer be open to volunteers and/or tours.

Thank you for your cooperation. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and keep you updated.

How to volunteer

Complete a Volunteer Application Form and send it to us by email, or drop it off in-person at our Centre located at 882 Alloy Place (Monday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm or Saturday 12 pm - 4 pm).

Once you have completed the interview and reference checks, you will be required to attend an orientation and hands-on training session.

We may not be able to respond immediately to all applicants and appreciate your patience.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm, and Saturday 12 - 4 pm. Volunteers responsibilities include:

  • Walk or bathe dogs
  • Groom dogs and cats
  • Socialize and cuddle dogs and cats
  • Help with special events

Youth Volunteers

Animal Services accepts applications for volunteers 14 years of age and older. This is also a great place for youth to get their volunteer hours. Youth who are interested in volunteering and are under the age of 14 should contact the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society at 475-8803.
