The Public is invited to participate in a Public Meeting, which City Council will be holding on: Monday, July 25th, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.

The Planning Services Division would like your comments on a proposal to: amend the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to allow for the construction of a regional commercial development on the subject lands.

Purpose and effect of proposal

 The Applicant has applied for a site-specific amendment to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to permit a regional commercial development. More specifically, the proposal seeks to allow for a range of commercial uses including a “Retail Store”, “Restaurant”, and “Hotel” and to re-designate a portion of the subject lands from the Natural Heritage land use designation of the Official Plan to Business Area. The proposal also seeks to amend the required number of parking spaces for a Restaurant (from 1 parking space for every 6.0 square metres of gross floor area to 1 parking space for every 8.0 square metres of gross floor area).

How to Participate

 You should submit your comments no later than 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, quoting file number OZ-06-2022. Copies of all letters will be forwarded to City Council and to the applicant.  Your comments will be used to prepare a recommendation to City Council.  The collection of personal information including names and contact information provided in written submissions is made under the authority of the Planning Act for the purpose of creating a Public Record.  Personal information is collected in compliance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 

  • Attend in person to present comments at the Council meeting, advanced registration is not required.
  • Attend Electronically using Microsoft Teams video communication software or a teleconference phone line. The Clerk will make this option available to participants who have registered by the deadline noted above. Registered participants will be encouraged to participate from home. However, a public computer kiosk with the required software will be made available in the Lobby of City Hall for those who are unable to participate from home. All use of this computer kiosk will be by appointment only. Participants shall have a maximum of 10 minutes each to speak.
  • Watch online: Members of the public are invited to view the Public Meeting via live streaming by visiting www.thunderbay.ca/watchcouncil or via the live broadcast on Shaw Spotlight Ch10, BlueCurve Ch105 or TBayTel TV Channel 110. Video of meetings will also be available for viewing following the meeting online at www.thunderbay.ca/watchcouncil.
