Thunder Bay’s Annual Tech & Gaming Event
April 30 – May 2, 2021

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce the return of its annual tech and gaming event, Quest! Due to COVID‐19 restrictions, this event will be virtual. Quest offers esports tournaments, as well as tech related educational workshops and programming. There are great prizes to be won in all tournaments. All tournaments are open to everyone of all skill types. Families and friends are encouraged to watch and cheer on their favourite gamers, at www.twitch.tv/wegotgame_corp.

Round 1: 6pm - 7:30pm

Microbits

Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 1:00pm 
Welcome to the wild world of Microbits with Science North! Participants will code a Microbit to control a robotic system. Coders will be challenged to use a vibration motor in order to conduct a remote sensing task. Registrants will receive a kit that includes: microbit, batteries, button, vibration motor, and wire.
Workshop will take place via Zoom, registrants will be emailed a link to participate
Recommended for Ages: 10 – 14 years old

Tinkering

Join Science North’s bluecoats in an engaging and hands-on tinkering session! Participants will be challenged to use motors, LEDs and batteries to make a circuit system in order to complete a challenge. Registrants will receive a kit that includes: DC motor, battery, LED, and wire.
Pre-recorded workshop video will be available to view from 9am on Friday, April 30th until 11pm on Sunday, May 2nd 
Recommended for Ages: 9 – 12 years old

Zoetrope

Welcome to the wonderful world of gears, animation, persistence of vision and more with Science North! With your kit, you'll be able to create a ""Zoetrope"", or one of the world's first version of animation. Learn about how gears help us in many situations, and how we can use them in our favour for animation! Registrants will receive a kit that includes: laser cut Zoetrope kit, bearing, and animation strip.
Pre-recorded workshop video will be available to view from 9am on Friday, April 30th until 11pm on Sunday, May 2nd 
Recommended for Ages: 7 – 15 years old

Coding

Join our Science North Bluecoat in this exciting science show as we take you through the applications of coding to make cool things, new experiences and LITERALLY make new friends. From robotics to reactions, and augmentations to A.I., the demonstrations in this show are going to open your eyes to the wonders of the coding and technology world.
Pre-recorded workshop video will be available to view from 9am on Friday, April 30th until 11pm on Sunday, May 2nd
