The City of Thunder Bay is working with the community to improve safety, inclusion, and well-being for all residents. Efforts focus on prevention, equity, and connection — because a safer city is one where people are supported, communities are strong, and no one is left behind.

The Thunder Bay Community Safety & Well-Being Advisory Committee advises on and oversees the implementation and monitoring of the CSWB plan for Thunder Bay.

Community Safety and Well-Being plans support safe and healthy communities through a community-based approach to address root causes of complex social issues. Planning seeks to achieve a proactive, balanced and collaborative approach to community safety and well-being across four key areas: social development, prevention, risk intervention, and incident response.

Past award winnersThe Mayor’s Community Safety Awards, first launched in 2010, recognized individuals, groups, and organizations making Thunder Bay safer through leadership, innovation, and grassroots action. Over 13 years, the awards celebrated those working to reduce harm, build inclusion, and strengthen community well-being.

**NEW** In 2025, the Mayor’s Awards have been integrated into the new Respect & Safety Awards as a featured recognition stream. This unified approach tells a stronger story about local leadership and makes it easier to celebrate all those contributing to a safer, more inclusive Thunder Bay.
