The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that Dave Tarini will be appointed as the new Chief of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, following a rigorous selection process that drew applicants from across the country.

Tarini brings decades of firefighting and leadership experience to the role.

Autism Ontario is one of the largest collective voices representing the autism community, and the work we do helps all autistic individuals and families in their communities have access to meaningful support, information, and connections – not only on April 2 but everyday throughout the year; and

With snow in the forecast, the City of Thunder Bay is encouraging residents to continue following posted calendar parking signs to help support safe traffic flow and efficient snow-clearing.

Calendar parking restrictions no longer apply after March 31.

The City of Thunder Bay has received $2,915,335 from the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLG) for Fiscal 2025, as part of its hosting agreement with Gateway Casino Thunder Bay.

 This contribution reflects Thunder Bay’s role as a host community for the casino, which draws thousands of visitors each year for gaming and entertainment while supporting local jobs.

Curbside waste collection dates will change next week due to the Good Friday statutory holiday, moving to one day earlier for all residents. There will be no collection on Friday, April 3.

Local high school students marked World Water Day with hands-on activities, Elder-led learning, and career development opportunities at Confederation College on Wednesday.

Around 200 students visited the World Water Day exhibition, part of the college’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Week.

March 24, 2026 – The City is continuing its analysis of potential designated encampment locations, which includes processing a substantial amount of community input and reviewing the historical context of the sites under consideration. As this work progresses, the complexity of the evaluations has resulted in the need for additional time to complete due diligence, including preliminary environmental assessments, and further studies where needed.

As part of the City of Thunder Bay’s efforts to maintain our roadways during the period of spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur, reduced heavy load restrictions will apply within the City of Thunder Bay limits beginning at 8:00 am on Monday, March 23.

The Reduced Load Restrictions apply to all streets within the City of Thunder Bay limits with some exempted streets.

March 12, 2026 – The City of Thunder Bay is inviting community members to attend an upcoming public drop‑in session to share their feedback and learn more about six potential designated encampment sites.

The session takes place on Wednesday, March 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Intercity Shopping Centre and will feature visual displays explaining key components, with staff present to answer questions.

Due to warm temperatures over the weekend, the City of Thunder Bay’s outdoor skating rinks are temporarily closed.

With colder weather in the forecast, the City’s Parks & Open Spaces Division will work to reopen skating rinks throughout the week as conditions allow.
