Thunder Bay has officially been recognized as a Youth Friendly Designated City.  The City of Thunder Bay’s Recreation and Culture Division put forth an application based on the work that has been achieve in the area over the past several years.

The traffic lights at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Lillie Street will be reactivated tomorrow, April 4, 2019.  

During the first few days, the signals will be set to a flashing red light to allow drivers time to adjust to the reactivation of the signals.

The City of Thunder Bay has commissioned Ipsos, a professional public opinion research company, to conduct the 2019 Citizen Satisfaction Survey by telephone to a random selection of residents.

The survey will take place over the next two weeks and will end mid-April.

WHEREAS, World Autism Awareness Day will be recognized on April 3^rd, 2018, in Canada thanks to Liberal Senator Jim Munson’s Bill S-206, An Act Respecting World Autism Awareness Day; and

WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects more than 100,000 Ontarians. Autism Spectrum Disorder is now recognized as the most common neurological disorder affecting 1 in every 66 children, as well as their friends, family and community; and

WHEREAS, ASD is a spectrum disorder, which means.

The Supreme Court of Canada will not hear CN Railway’s appeal of a June 2018 court decision that orders CN to repair and reopen its bridge.

The Sister City Chef Exchange returns to Thunder Bay April 8, featuring the culinary talents of Chef Steve Rantala from Duluth’s Lake Avenue Restaurant and Bar and Chef John Murray of Red Lion Smokehouse. Tickets are still available for what’s sure to be a meal to remember, as both chefs join forces to create a five-course dinner derived from the finest locally sourced ingredients the Lake Superior region has to offer.

With warmer weather in the forecast, Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue is reminding residents to be extra careful around bodies of water and rivers, as Fire crews have responded to both people and pets on the ice in the last week.

“Walking on the ice in the Thunder Bay harbour is not permitted,” said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio.

Robin Cooper, a tireless volunteer with the Shelter House and other community organizations, today took home the 2019 respect. Award at Diversity Thunder Bay’s 13^th Annual Celebration Breakfast for the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The City’s outdoor skating rinks have closed for the season due to seasonal effect. The only exception is the Prince Arthur’s Landing skating rink, which will remain open until Sunday, March 17, if weather conditions remain favourable.
