City Launches Pop-Up Patio Pilot
May 3, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay will be launching a two-year Pop-Up Patio Pilot beginning this summer to allow local businesses to build temporary, seasonal patios and seating areas using sidewalks and on-street parking spaces.
This pilot has been requested by businesses within the Business Improvement Areas (BIA) and Business Association (BA) areas who believe the establishment of pop-up patios would contribute to the attractiveness and vibrancy of the areas, attracting additional visitors.
City Announces Youth Arts Week ActivitiesApril 30, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to host a Youth Arts Showcase, presented by Ontario Power Generation, in celebration of National Youth Arts Week.
Youth Arts Week is a national celebration of the positive contribution youth make to their communities through their talents, ideas and the arts.
Section of Balmoral Street to Close for Storm Sewer WorkApril 27, 2018 - Starting Monday, April 30, a section of Balmoral Street, located between John Street and Oliver Road, will be closed to through traffic for about three weeks for storm sewer construction.
Local traffic will be allowed at each end of the construction site.
Thunder Bay Preparing to Host Kashechewan EvacueesApril 26, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay has been asked by the Province to serve as a host community as early as Saturday for residents of Kashechewan First Nation, where the Chief has declared a state of emergency due to potential for flooding.
"We have a long history of stepping up to help our neighbours from the north," said Mayor Keith Hobbs.
New Climate Change Website LaunchedApril 23, 2018 - EarthCare Thunder Bay, in partnership with Lakehead University, has launched a new climate change website: ClimateChangeTBay.com.
City's Mobility Coordinator Awarded Walking College FellowshipApril 23, 2018 - The City's Mobility Coordinator, Adam Krupper, has been awarded a Walking College Fellowship as part of the 2018 Walkable Communities training program. The program, offered through America Walks, a US-based advocacy organization working to empower communities to create safe, accessible, and enjoyable places to walk, is a five-month training program designed to strengthen local efforts to make communities more walkable and livable.
Invitation to Smart Cities Drop-In Open HousesApril 13, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay, in partnership with Fort William First Nation and other partners including Thunder Bay Police, TBayTel and Thunder Bay Hydro, is submitting an application to the Smart Cities Challenge to be shortlisted for a $10 million prize.
The Challenge encourages communities of all sizes, including municipalities, regional governments and Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis and Inuit), to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents.
Citizens Invited to Sign Humboldt Broncos Books of CondolencesApril 11, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay invites citizens to sign Books of Condolences to allow them to pay their respects to the families of the victims and to the people of Humboldt, Saskatchewan deeply affected by the recent Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team bus tragedy.

"¢ Fort William Gardens, 901 Miles.City Launches Project SoundCheck to Reduce Sexual ViolenceApril 12, 2018 - The Crime Prevention Council has partnered with Sexual Abuse Centre Thunder Bay and the City's Recreation & Culture Division to bring Project SoundCheckTM to Thunder Bay. Project SoundCheckTM was founded in Ottawa in 2015 after research showed that 25% of sexual assaults in Ottawa occurred at mass gatherings like festivals and concerts.
