Discontinuation of Landfill Free Week Encourages Alternate Forms of Waste Disposal
April 26, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay will discontinue the annual Free Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility in May as part of a recommended action item in the Solid Waste Management Strategy.
"The City is continuing to make progress in advancing the recommendations in the Solid Waste Management Strategy," said Jason Sherband, Manager - Solid Waste & Recycling Services.
Memorandum of Settlement Reached with EMSApril 26, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that the City has reached a Memorandum of Settlement with Unifor Local 229 Superior North Emergency Medical Services Thunder Bay (SNEMS).

2016 Clean, Green & Beautiful Projects AwardedApril 25, 2016 - The Thunder Bay Courthouse, Northern Credit Union and Generator Insights, Strategy, Creative each were recognized at the Clean, Green & Beautiful Awards tonight during Council's Committee of the Whole meeting. The Pollinator Gardens at the Centennial Botanical Conservatory were also recognized with a Public Spaces Award for reaching Clean, Green & Beautiful standards.
Developing a Community Response to Maternal Substance UseApril 25, 2016 - The Thunder Bay Drug Strategy held the Working Towards a Community Response to Substance Use Pregnancy and Parenting event at the Sister Margaret Smith Centre today to help agencies better understand the unique needs of women who use substances that are pregnant or parenting.
"We have gathered key decision makers and front-line staff from numerous community agencies for this event to learn how to recognize and understand the needs of substance-involved women and their children,".
Provincial Funding Announced for New Active Transportation TrailApril 22, 2016 - The Province of Ontario is providing funding to the City of Thunder Bay to build a new 850 metre trail from Golf Links Road connecting to Confederation College through the Ontario Municipal Cycling Infrastructure Program (OMCIP).
The City of Thunder Bay, along with Confederation College, applied to the program for $325,000 in matched funding.
Section of Water Street to Close to Accommodate Roof RepairsApril 22, 2016 -A section of Water Street between Red River Road and Park Avenue will be temporarily closed starting on Monday, April 25 to accommodate roof repairs at 189 Red River Road.
The southbound curb lane and sidewalk will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the next four months.
Call for Artists and Community Groups for Summer EventsApril 19, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is inviting artists, artisans and community groups to participate in summer events.
Community group booth opportunities include all city produced events.
Provincial Funding for Water Innovations in Thunder BayApril 15, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay has made improvements to its water and wastewater systems through a Showcasing Water Innovation (SWI) grant from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.
The SWI grants were intended for recipients to pioneer cost-effective and innovative approaches to sustainable water management solutions.
CEDC Discusses Thunder Bay's Competitiveness in New ReportApril 13, 2016 -The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) held a special presentation today to expand on the City's Competitive Position ranking as it was highlighted in the 2014 edition of the KPMG's Guide to International Business Location Costs: Competitive Alternatives.
Doug Murray, CEO of the Thunder Bay CEDC, outlined the following business costs in the Report with respect to: facilities, labour, transportation, utilities, and taxes.
