Celebrating Freshwater Leadership with Family Fun
March 21, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay celebrated Canada Water Week with a free, educational event at Prince Arthur's Landing on Sunday afternoon.
Hosted by EarthCare Thunder Bay in collaboration with EcoSuperior and other community partners, the family-focused event took place in the Baggage Building Arts Centre.
Waste Collection Changes for Easter (1)March 18, 2016 - The upcoming Easter holiday will result in changes to waste collection city-wide.
Garbage and recycling collection moves back one day during the week of March 21 for all residents.
City Roads Crews Continue to Combat Heavy SnowfallMarch 17, 2016 - With yesterday's heavy snowfall continuing overnight, City roads crews will continue to plow, sand, and salt roads and sidewalks for the rest of the week.
As many as nine sanders and five graders were deployed across the City prior to 6 pm yesterday evening, when roads crews were required to cease operations to rest for a mandatory eight hour period before the 2 am plow.
Winter Operations in Full Force Clearing Slippery RoadsMarch 16, 2016 - City roads crews are out in full force with the heavy snowfall that began around 12 pm today. City sanders began operations at approximately 12:30 pm, to combat slippery road conditions; however the intensity of the snow created slush and packed very quickly causing some slippery conditions.
Don't Be Reckless: Dangerous Thin Ice ConditionsMarch 15, 2016 - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is asking all residents to stay off any of the frozen bodies of water in the area. The recent increase in temperature is causing ice conditions to deteriorate and areas of open water are becoming visible.
LU Hockey Players & Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Talk Fire Safety at St Thomas SchoolMarch 11, 2016 -Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, Tbaytel and the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey Team have again joined forces to promote fire safety with the creation of fire safety hockey cards featuring this year's Thunderwolves team. Today at St Thomas Aquinas School members of the Thunderwolves Hockey Team joined Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in educating grade four students on home fire safety.
Call for Talent for City of Thunder Bay Summer EventsMarch 11, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is inviting musicians, dance groups, children's entertainers and other stage performance acts to apply to perform at the City's annual summer events.
Performance opportunities include over 14 event days, including two major single-day events and two event series.
Change Your Batteries When You Change Your Clock (3)March 10, 2016 -Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds the community to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks this weekend for Daylight Savings Time.
"Every time change is an opportunity to educate the community about the importance of changing and testing the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms," said Fire Chief John Hay.
Residents Safely Evacuated During Group Home FireMarch 7, 2016 - A fire investigation has determined that the quick actions by care providers in a residential group home led to the safe evacuation of six residents in rapidly evolving fire conditions.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be a resident lighting paper on fire.
