City to host Kashechewan First Nation Evacuees
The City of Thunder Bay has been requested by Indigenous Services Canada to assist Kashechewan First Nation by hosting vulnerable members of their community due to ongoing issues with the community’s Water Treatment Plant. Approximately 200 individuals have been identified for evacuation.
CityStudio to leverage Confederation College student researchStudents from Confederation College's post-graduate Health Informatics program showcased their capstone research projects today, sharing health indicator findings that will inform the City of Thunder Bay’s next Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
The Health Informatics students collected data on health indicators related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) and, in small groups, validated and updated that data from a 2022 Thunder Bay Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of the SDGs.
Boulevard Garden By-law to be presented to CouncilAfter numerous revisions and incorporating public input, the proposed Boulevard Garden and Maintenance By-law will be presented to Thunder Bay City Council on Monday night.
Council will deliberate the proposed By-law on December 16.
Water bill delivery delayed for some residentsDue to the ongoing Canada Post strike the delivery of water bills has been delayed for residents in Section 1, which includes the Red River, Current River, Woodcrest and Grandview areas, as well as remote and country areas such as Rosslyn and Riverdale.
These bills, originally scheduled for mailing after water meter readings in October, will be sent out as soon as Canada Post resumes operations.

City seeks public feedback on finalists for North Core art installationsThe City of Thunder Bay is looking for public feedback to help inform the decision of what public art will be permanently installed as part of the City’s North Core Street Scape Public Art Installations Project in summer of 2025.
The feedback opportunity is for four works of art that have been selected as finalists for two locations - Court Street Plaza (north-west corner of Court Street North and Red River Road), and Mall Street Plaza (at Mall Street and Red River Road.
Winter priority route and calendar parking restrictions in effectWith the recent snowfall and more snow forecasted next week, the City of Thunder Bay will be implementing annual calendar parking and priority route restrictions beginning Monday December 9, 2024, at 9 am. Parking officers will be out enforcing the restrictions.
Prince Arthur’s Landing Ice Rink Open for the SeasonThe ice rink at Prince Arthur's Landing is now open for the season and will operate daily from 12 pm to 9 pm. Residents and visitors of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy skating at the waterfront throughout the winter months.
