Several Thunder Bay Transit bus routes will temporarily take detours to accommodate work to rebuild roads and sewers in the downtown north core.

Starting Monday, May 6, routes 1, 2, 3M, 11, and 13 will detour because of construction closing the Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection.

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce an open call for performers to participate in a new Collaboration Project that encourages artists and performers to exchange ideas and develop a unique and engaging performance for the main stage as part of Canada Day on the Waterfront.  

The goal of the Collaboration Project is to showcase the talent and vibrant culture of the community through performance.

As of July 1, Thunder Bay residents will use wheeled recycling carts to place recycling at the curb, and blue bags will no longer be accepted.

Cart delivery to residential household addresses will begin the week of May 5 and continue into June.

MELANOMA AND SKIN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, it is imperative that communities across Canada be reminded of importance of sun safety; and

WHEREAS, over-exposure to UV radiation is one of the major causes of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers; and

WHEREAS, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and 1 in 6 Canadians born in the 1990’s will get skin cancer in their lifetime; and

WHEREAS, many people seek sun without taking the advisable precautionary measures and are unaware..

WHEREAS, the health and wellbeing of mothers and families affects every community in Canada. The first Wednesday in May is World Maternal Mental Health Day to bring awareness to the difficulties mothers from all walks of life face; and

WHEREAS, around this day, prenatal coalition members, clinicians, women with lived experience, and allies will be participating in the 3rd annual Flora’s Walk for perinatal mental health awareness.

A prolonged period of cold, wet weather this spring has delayed the official opening of bike lanes in Thunder Bay.

Bike lanes open after street sweeping has been completed, typically on May 1.
