The City of Thunder Bay’s newest splash pad officially opened today at a grand opening ceremony.

The new facility is located at the Northwood Playfield, on James Street, and is the City’s fifth splash pad and fourth neighbourhood splash pad.

Arthur Street will be closed to all westbound traffic at the James Street intersection starting on Monday, July 18, to allow for storm sewer work. Repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Due to a water main repair, Central Avenue between Riverside Drive and 8^th Avenue, will be completely closed in both directions starting on Thursday, July 14, at 8 am.

The City of Thunder Bay and presenting sponsor Ontario Power Generation are excited to host Cris Derksen, an internationally respected Indigenous cellist and composer this week on Wednesday, July 13.

Cris Derksen will be hitting the stage at Live on the Waterfront at 8 pm with a unique style that braids the traditional and contemporary, weaving her classical background and Indigenous ancestry together with new-school electronics to create genre-defying music.

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce the return of live music to Marina Park with a diverse and talented line-up for the Live on the Waterfront concert series this summer. 

Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation, has been on the Festivals & Events Ontario’s prestigious ‘Top 100 Ontario Festivals’ list three times, most recently in 2020.

Pavement resurfacing work will begin on Memorial Avenue between Central Avenue and Second Avenue on Thursday, July 7. The work is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.

The City of Thunder Bay has activated two more pedestrian crossovers - located at Shuniah Street and Huron Avenue, and at Edward Street and Isabella Street - bringing the total number of pedestrian crossovers in Thunder Bay to 17.

Pedestrian crossovers make it easy, safe and convenient for people to cross the street.

The City of Thunder Bay is happy to announce the upcoming, FREE activities and entertainment for Canada Day this year, presented by Ontario Power Generation, on Monday, July 1, at Marina Park.

With community events happening over the entire summer, the fireworks will not be taking place on July 1, but at a Live on the Waterfront event at the end of August.
