WHEREAS, the Year of the Garden 2022 celebrates the Centennial of Canada’s horticulture sector; and
WHEREAS, gardens and gardening contribute to the quality of life of our municipality, our climate action goals and create safe and healthy places where people can come together in the spirit of inclusivity and reconciliation; and
WHEREAS, the Year of the Garden 2022 will highlight and celebrate the important contribution of gardeners, our local gardening organizations, horticultural professionals..
Notice of Surplus PropertyNotice is hereby given that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Thunder Bay, at its meeting held on Monday, December 20, 2021, declared the following land and easement interests surplus to the City's requirements:
(F98) An easement interest over land known as Alice Avenue, being Part of Lot 1, Registered Plan 622 designated as Part 2 on Reference Plan 55R-1028 containing an area of apx. 705.
City Issues Weather Alert (1)As part of the COVID-19 Severe Weather Response Plan, the City is issuing an alert to the community because of a snowfall warning with total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm, and easterly winds gusting to 50 km/h resulting in local blowing snow.
During cold weather and times of heavy snowfall, residents are encouraged to check in with vulnerable friends, neighbours and family to ensure they are not experiencing any difficulties related to the weather.
Outdoor Boarded Skating Rinks Begin Opening December 24Some of the City’s boarded, outdoor skating rinks will begin opening for the season starting on Friday, Dec. 24.
Christmas Tree Drop-off Sites Open Boxing Day (1)The City will once again recycle natural trees this holiday season, grinding the trees into wood chips to be added to the compost pile at the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Facility. Compost is given away each spring to beautify residents' lawns and flower gardens.
Salvation Army WeekDECEMBER 20-24, 2021
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is the largest non-governmental service provider in Canada; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army has been caring for men, women and children, in Thunder Bay and across Ontario for over 135 years; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign is a symbol of hope to people who receive care from the Salvation Army in Thunder Bay each year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Bill Mauro, on behalf of Thunder Bay City Council, do hereby proclaim December.
Impacts to City Services Following New Provincial RegulationsFollowing the Government of Ontario’s announcement on Friday of new restrictions, including reduced capacity limits for most indoor settings, impacts to City services and recreation facilities will occur.
Starting at 12:01 am on Sunday, all City arenas and recreational facilities will have an indoor capacity limit of 50%.
City Conducts In-Depth Analysis of Seven Youth Inquest ActionsIn late June, the City submitted its annual report on the implementation of the Seven Youth Inquest Recommendations. Of the 31 recommendations aimed at the City, 25 were considered to be short term, with the remaining six considered to be longer-term.
