2021 Road Work Season has begun
The City of Thunder Bay is investing $32 million in 2021 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.
This month marks the start of a busy road work season that can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers.
Some Outdoor Recreational Amenities to Re-OpenEffective May 22 at 12:01 am, the Ontario government has given provincial orders to permit the reopening of some outdoor recreational amenities, with restrictions in place. This comes in response to recent improvements to province-wide vaccination rates and improvements in key public health and health care indicators.
One Extra Item of Garbage Allowed Next Week (2)The City will allow residents to put out a third item of garbage with no tag on the first collection date after the Victoria Day holiday.
Residents are reminded to make efforts to reduce waste as it saves energy, time, money and valuable natural resources.
Accessibility Advisory Committee Invites Input into Virtual Open HouseThe City of Thunder Bay’s Accessibility Advisory Committee is pleased to announce they will be hosting a virtual open house in the fall of 2021. The virtual open house will consist of five to six videos that will be available on the City website and City YouTube channel.
Free Compost Now Available to Residents (1)Weather permitting, compost is now available to all residents at no charge at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility while quantities last.
Access to the compost pick-up area is on John Street Rd, between Mapleward Rd and Gratton Rd.
City Launching New Online Program RegistrationThe City of Thunder Bay’s Central Support Division is launching a new online registration system today for recreation programs and facilities.
Residents will be able to create their own accounts to easily search, register and pay for upcoming programs and memberships online.
Residents Invited to Participate in Virtual Public Works WeekResidents are invited to celebrate National Public Works Week virtually this week to learn about how public works services and activities support the community every day. The event runs online via the May 17, 2021

City Archives Welcomes Nominations for Women’s History MonthThe City of Thunder Bay Archives is calling for nominations from the community of notable women from our city’s past to be featured on the web exhibit for Women’s History Month in October.
The Women in History online exhibit was launched in 2013 as a means to recognize women who have contributed to the history and community of Thunder Bay.
