WHEREAS, deafblindness is a unique disability that incorporates the loss of both sight and hearing. Individuals who are deafblind can live full, meaningful lives as independently as possible with the right supports in place, such as intervener services; and

WHEREAS, Canadan Hellen Keller Centre is a non-for-profit organization that supports individuals who are deafblind to increase their independence and improve their quality of life through specialized services; and 

WHEREAS, everyone.

The Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with various community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. Officials are starting to assess lessons of the first phase wave of the pandemic as re-opening starts, and they look ahead to preparing for fall and winter.

Following consultation and communication with Fort William First Nation Chief Peter Collins, Chippewa Park will reopen to the public on Friday, May 29.

Some park amenities remain closed as per the Provincial Order, and signage is posted.

The intersection at the Harbour Expressway and Balmoral Street will be fully closed starting on Wednesday, May 27, at 6 am, until end of day Thursday, May 28. A posted detour will be available at Golf Links Road, Central Avenue and Carrick Street.

Following Tuesday’s Provincial announcement that permits the opening of outdoor sports facilities, some City-run facilities will be opening to the public in the coming days.

Chapples Golf Course and Strathcona Golf Course will be open beginning tomorrow, Friday, May 22.

As the Province officially entered the first stage of its “Framework for Reopening the Province” this week, the Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with various community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation.

“We are now beginning a period where the Provincial Government is allowing access to more retail establishments and recreational opportunities including golf courses, marinas, public boat launches and other recreational and sporting pursuits,” said.

Thunder Bay’s Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) is urging the Board for the Finlandia Association of Thunder Bay to consider the retention and long term protection of artifacts contained within the Finnish Labour Temple property, 314 Bay Street. HAC urges the Board to ensure preservation of these artifacts as part of its inherent duty towards the protection of the history of the Finnish Labour Temple and the organizations within it, as well as the Finnish-Canadian culture within the region.
