Construction Project Begins Near Cornwall Avenue
The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that Cornwall Avenue, between Banning Street and Crown Street, will be limited to local traffic only as infrastructure work is carried out in the adjacent back lane.
The work is expected to take approximately six weeks and includes:
- Installation of new catch basin leads
- Watermain looping and tie-in to the existing main on Cornwall Avenue
- Construction of new retaining walls
All construction activity will take place in the back lane, which will be fully.

The award encourages municipal governments across Canada to prepare budget documents and presentations of the highest quality that reflect both the guidelines and best practices set out by GFOA.
Road and Sewer Work to Close Section of MacDonell Street Starting May 20Beginning Tuesday, May 20, MacDonell Street will be closed between Central Avenue and Squier Street to allow for essential road and sewer infrastructure improvements.
The closure is necessary to complete the installation of a storm sewer system, as well as curb and gutter work, followed by asphalt paving.
Free compost is now available to City residentsFree compost is now available at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility, for all City residents - while quantities last, weather permitting.
Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road.
City of Thunder Bay AA+ Credit Rating Reaffirmed for 2025S&P Global Ratings has reaffirmed the City of Thunder Bay’s credit rating of AA+.
S&P Global Ratings, an international credit rating agency, has given the City a AA+ rating for the fourth consecutive year.
