10th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards Presented
Two individuals and four community projects received recognition tonight during the 10th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards for their outstanding work in the community.

Nominations Open for Mayor’s Community Safety AwardsThe Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Council is calling for nominations for the 10th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards, which recognize Thunder Bay residents and groups who are working to make our city safer and more inclusive.

Eighth Annual Awards Presented to respect. ChampionsThe eighth annual respect. Award recipients were announced today with the honour going to one local organization and one individual based on their efforts to exemplify respect in the community.
Coalition to End Human Trafficking Hosting Awareness EventThe Thunder Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking are hosting a public awareness event in the promotional court at Intercity Shopping Centre tomorrow from noon to 4pm to provide information about human trafficking and affiliated community resources. The goal is to engage the public about human trafficking and the importance of specific and specialized services.
Mayor Invites the Community to Safety and Well-Being PlanningA Public Forum for Community Safety and Well-Being was held this evening to launch the planning process in Thunder Bay.
Effective January 1, 2019, new legislation mandates all Ontario municipalities to prepare and adopt a community safety and well-being (CSWB) plan that proactively addresses locally identified priority risks to community safety and well-being.

Male Students Attend Training on Gender-based ViolenceNearly 50 grade seven to 10 male students from Lakehead Public Schools throughout the city are attending the Engaging Male Students to Reduce and Prevent Gender-Based Violence workshop today aimed at preventing gender-based violence against women and girls. The training conference brings together presenters from various organizations in the city to educate the boys with the knowledge and skills they need to become kind men.

Crime Prevention Council Raises Alarm on Home TakeoversThe City of Thunder Bay’s Crime Prevention Council is raising the alarm in the community about home takeovers, which involves unwanted guests taking over the place of a homeowner or tenant for shelter or to conduct illegal activities.
“If a person is feeling unsafe physically, financially or psychologically in their own home because of the presence of people who will not leave, then they need to recognize they are not to blame and to get help,” said Lee-Ann Chevrette, Coordinator – Thunder Bay Crime.
