City Launches Upgraded Website to Enhance Access to Information and Services
The City of Thunder Bay has launched an upgraded website designed to make it easier for residents to find information, access services, and stay informed about municipal programs, projects, and initiatives.
With more than 800,000 visitors and nearly 3-million page views annually, the website is one of the City's most important communications channels and a key connection between the City and the broader community.
The refreshed website is part of a transition to an upgraded platform that provides improved tools for managing and sharing information with the public, while creating a stronger foundation for ongoing enhancements and continuous improvement.
“This upgrade gives us better tools, but the real opportunity is what we can do with them going forward,” said Stephanie Reid, Communications Specialist. “This is going to allow us to make information easier to find and understand, better explain the work happening across the community, and help residents be more informed about the decisions, services and projects that affect them now and in the future.”
She added that better communication helps people understand not only what the City is doing, but why. “When residents have easier access to good information, they are better equipped to participate, provide input and engage with the City.”
The project is focused on making information clearer and easier to use, recognizing that both current and prospective residents rely on the City’s website as their primary source for information on the City and its services. For many, a City’s website is often the first place they will go when considering relocation options. Similarly, for business leaders seeking expansion opportunities in new markets.
"As we continue our work on the Smart Growth Action Plan, the upgraded website will help us more effectively share information about our city, the services we offer, and the work we are doing as a community,” said Michelle Williams, Manager, Corporate Communications & Public Relations. “It will also help strengthen engagement with residents and make growth, opportunities and progress more visible to those considering Thunder Bay as a place to live, work or invest.”
