Clerk’s Office Releases Official 2026 Municipal Election Results
As declared by Dana Earle, Acting Returning Officer, under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Official Results of the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election have been released.
Voters selected representatives to Thunder Bay City Council and the School Boards to serve their communities over the next four-year term. Electors chose the Mayor, Councillors At Large, and Ward Councillors, making up Thunder Bay's 13-member City Council.
"I am pleased to provide the Official Results for the 2026 newly elected City Council and School Boards for the upcoming term," said Dana Earle, Acting Returning Officer. "The two voting options available to electors, including online voting and in person opportunities, helped provide residents with accessible ways to participate in the Election. We also saw the majority of voters choose to cast their ballot online."
A total of 37,539 ballots were cast in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election, representing a voter turnout of 40.8% of eligible voters. This is an increase from the 35,611 ballots cast in the 2022 Municipal Election.

The Office of the City Clerk has received inquiries about the children’s vote for the Teddy Bear Mayor and the City would like to thank all that participated. Ballots are currently being tabulated and there will be a public announcement of the winner for the Teddy Bear Mayor at the December 1, 2026 meeting of City Council.
