Ford Street Pedestrian Bridge Temporarily Closed for Repairs
The City of Thunder Bay has temporarily closed the Ford Street Pedestrian Bridge effective immediately following a recent structural inspection that identified repairs needed to maintain the bridge’s long-term safety and reliability.
During the inspection, engineers identified significant deterioration in one of the bridge's wooden support piles. As a precaution, the bridge has been closed while a repair plan is developed and implemented.
The City has engaged a structural engineer to design the necessary repairs and is working to determine the most efficient path forward. Updates to repair timelines and reopening of the bridge will be shared as they become available.
The City recognizes that the closure may impact pedestrians who use the bridge and appreciates the public's patience and understanding while this important work is completed.
