International Day of Peace - 2026

WHEREAS, the International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21^st to promote peace, non-violence and understanding among all people;

WHEREAS, the United Nations established the International Day of Peace in 1981 as a global call for individuals, communities and nations to work together toward a more peaceful world;

WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”, recognizes that peace is built not only through global action, but also through everyday acts of compassion, inclusion, cooperation and respect within our homes, schools, workplaces and communities;

WHEREAS, the City of Thunder Bay values diversity, reconciliation, mutual understanding and community well-being and acknowledges that lasting peace is strengthened through collective efforts that promote dignity, equality and opportunity for all;

WHEREAS, residents of Thunder Bay are encouraged to take meaningful actions that foster peace, build connections, support one another and contribute to a more just and inclusive community for present and future generations;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Ken Boshcoff, on behalf of Thunder Bay City Council, do hereby proclaim September 21, 2026 as “International Day of Peace” in the City of Thunder Bay and encourage all citizens to reflect on ways they can invest in peace every day and participate in activities that promote understanding, respect and harmony throughout the community.
