National Resilience Day - 2026

WHEREAS resilience is the capacity of individuals, families and communities to adapt, recover and move forward following illness, loss, trauma, emergencies, economic disruption and other unexpected life changes; and

WHEREAS the City of Thunder Bay supports the safety, health and well-being of residents through emergency preparedness, Fire Rescue, paramedic services, community safety initiatives, recreation, services for older adults and partnerships with community organizations; and

WHEREAS Thunder Bay’s first responders, healthcare professionals, caregivers, volunteers, Indigenous partners, businesses, nonprofit organizations and residents contribute to a compassionate and resilient community; and

WHEREAS National Resilience Day™ encourages people to share stories of perseverance, recognize those who help others through adversity and undertake meaningful Acts of Resilience; and

WHEREAS an Act of Resilience may include supporting a caregiver, checking on a vulnerable neighbour, helping someone after an emergency, recognizing a person rebuilding after illness or loss, thanking a first responder or offering encouragement to someone experiencing difficulty; and

WHEREAS the national campaign seeks to inspire 1,000,000 Acts of Resilience across Canada and remind people that they do not have to face life-changing circumstances alone;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim September 24, 2026, as NATIONAL RESILIENCE DAY in the City of Thunder Bay and encourage residents, businesses, schools, healthcare organizations, community groups and first responders to participate through meaningful Acts of Resilience.
