Nominations Open for 2023 Mayor’s Community Safety Awards

Nominations are officially open for the 13th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards, which recognize Thunder Bay citizens and groups who are working to build a safer, healthier and more equitable community.

The awards are hosted by the City of Thunder Bay and Community Safety & Well-Being Thunder Bay. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m. The awards will be presented during a special ceremony during the Nov. 6, 2023 meeting of Thunder Bay City Council. The 2023 Awards fall into three categories:

•Community Hero Award – For an outstanding individual effort that contributes to a safer community. Sponsor: Apex Investigation & Security

•Young Leader Award – For outstanding contributions by a youth who demonstrates and encourages active participation in community safety. The youth is a leader in a project in their community. Sponsor: Generator

•Outstanding Community Project Award – For outstanding results in community safety or crime prevention through partnership and collaboration. Up to four projects may receive awards. Sponsors: Enbridge Gas Ltd., Circle K, Matawa First Nations and GardaWorld

“We are proud to present these awards once again,” said Jeff Upton, Chair of Community Safety & Well-Being Thunder Bay. “It is important for us to recognize those who are making a difference in our community. I believe that showcasing their work inspires others to make a difference too.”

“Community safety and well-being are truly a community effort,” said Mayor Ken Boshcoff. “We are seeing results from the tireless efforts of many individuals and organizations, and these awards celebrate those who are making a difference in our city.”
