October is Circular Economy Month
Since 2001, Circular Economy Month (an expansion of Waste Reduction Week) has been Canada’s initiative for educating about the circular economy and its social, environmental, and economic benefits. A circular economy minimizes waste and makes the most of the earth’s resources. Waste Reduction Week, the third week of October, promotes the various effective ways we can reduce waste. Watch the Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Facebook page throughout October for information, tips and ideas.
“The circular economy has always been an ideal. In recent years, nationwide promotion initiatives have made the public much more aware of the concept,” said Jason Sherband, Manager – Solid Waste & Recycling Services. “When we intentionally reduce waste, we promote the circular economy from the ground up. Repairing items to increase their lifespans, refusing excess packaging, and recycling all play roles in waste reduction.”
