Victoria Avenue Reopening Scheduled for Holiday Season
Victoria Avenue is expected to reopen to vehicle traffic by December 6, weather permitting, providing improved access to downtown businesses and destinations for the holiday season.
Construction crews are expected to complete paving over the next two weeks. Following paving, work will continue on sidewalks, lighting, business entrances and other streetscape elements as weather permits.
The project schedule was impacted by unforeseen underground conditions encountered during construction, requiring additional investigation and remediation work.
"Reopening Victoria Avenue to vehicle traffic before the holiday season will be an important milestone for the project and downtown businesses," said Kelvin Jankowski, Manager – Capital Facility Construction. "We appreciate the patience of businesses, residents, and visitors as the project moves toward completion."
While Victoria Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic this winter, some project elements will remain under construction. Temporary pedestrian access will remain in place where required throughout the winter to maintain safe access to businesses and properties.
Final work, including landscaping, paving stone features, remaining sidewalk and plaza elements, and the permanent road surface, will be completed during the 2027 construction season. Additional temporary road closures will be required to complete this work.
The Reimagine Victoriaville project reflects Action Item A1 of the City’s Smart Growth Action Plan, developing a vibrant public space that supports retail and cultural spaces and revitalizes the downtown south core.
