WHEREAS; more than a billion citizens across the globe are currently subjected to the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty, and that the best way to participate in a global effort to eliminate these conditions is through a local grassroots initiative to eliminate poverty within our community; and

WHEREAS;  the United Nations General Assembly declared the 17^th of October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and invited all states to devote..

OCTOBER 15

WHEREAS, October 15th  has been declared by the Province of Ontario as Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness day as a result of the passage of Bill 141:  Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness, Research, and Care Act; and

WHEREAS, over 30,000 Ontario families experience pregnancy and infant loss every year; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to develop greater awareness and understanding about the causes of pregnancy and infant loss, so we can improve the healthcare provided for pregnant mothers..

WHEREAS, trigeminal neuralgia is a disorder of the fifth cranial nerve that is often called the world’s worst pain; and

WHEREAS, trigeminal neuralgia causes sharp, stabbing, electric-like face pain, and it is not unusual for sufferers to end their lives trying to escape the agonizing pain; and

WHEREAS, the episodes of pain can strike anytime, anywhere, and last for extended periods leaving the person helpless and incapacitated; and

WHEREAS, Innocence Canada is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, advocating for and assisting individuals convicted of a crime they did not commit.

WHEREAS, Rett Syndrome (RS) is a neurological disorder that is seem almost exclusively in females and is believed to occur in 1:10,000 female births. Parents believe that they have a healthy child and the symptoms do not spear until a regression between six and eighteen months of age; and

WHEREAS, throughout their lives these courageous children will need total are and constant support from their family; they will combat many medical challenges.

WHEREAS, October is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Thunder Bay, a time dedicated to raising awareness and helping to prevent abuse of children; and

WHEREAS, the month raises awareness of child abuse prevention issues by making people more aware of the signs of child abuse, encouraging more people to report child abuse; and

WHEREAS, Dilico Anishinabek Family Care and The Children’s Aid Society of The District of Thunder Bay would like to remind the community that we are all responsible..

WHEREAS, the month of October is recognized as Dyslexia Awareness Month in many countries, cities and organizations; and

WHEREAS, Dyslexia Canada is a national non-profit which aims to create dyslexia awareness; and

WHEREAS, Proclaiming October as Dyslexia Awareness Month in Thunder Bay will raise awareness and support for children with dyslexia in our community.

WHEREAS, in May 18th, 2010, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario enacted the Franco-Ontarian Day Act, 2010 proclaiming September 25 in each year as the Franco-Ontarian Day; and

WHEREAS, the Franco-Ontarian Day Act recognizes that Franco-Ontarians commemorate September 25 to celebrate their language and heritage and also take pride in their collective accomplishments.  September 25 is the anniversary of the first unveiling of the Franco-Ontarian flag in Sudbury in 1975; the Franco-Ontarian.
