Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Service AppointedJune 17, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that after a thorough and rigorous search, Wayne Gates has been selected as the Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Service (SNEMS), effective immediately. Gates has been acting in the position since October 2015.
Improvement Plan to be considered to Revitalize Cores AreasJune 14, 2016 - A new Community Improvement Plan to promote development and rehabilitation of Thunder Bay's core business areas will be introduced at a City Council Public Meeting on June 20.
The Plan recognizes Thunder Bay's downtowns and the Westfort Business Area as strategic core areas where revitalization and intensification efforts will be focused to promote vibrant, walkable, mixed use districts.
New Resource for Local Start-Up Companies and InnovatorsJune 16, 2016 - Thunder Bay's new small business incubation zone was unveiled today at the Waverley location of the Thunder Bay Public Library. Aptly named hub:north, it is a low-cost to free resources for local entrepreneurs, innovators and start-up companies.
Environmental Assessment Begins for Boulevard Lake Dam ProjectJune 15, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay held the first public information session lastnight at the Current River Recreation Centre for the new Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) of the Boulevard Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project.
In collaboration with representatives from Arcadis Canada, JML Engineering, and Northern Bioscience, a history of the dam and its function was presented, as well as possible approaches to address the need for improvements to its structure.
City Issues Statement Regarding Tragic Shooting in OrlandoJune 13, 2016 - Mayor Hobbs issued the following statement after hearing of the fatal shooting in Orlando, Florida:
"Our city offers sincerest condolences and supports the families of those that were killed in the mass shooting in Orlando. It is unspeakable that as many as 50 lives have been lost to this domestic terror attack.
2016 Road Work Season ContinuesJune 9, 2016 - The road work season in Thunder Bay is now underway. Projects to be undertaken in 2016 include road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sewer and watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work and streetlight renewal.
Mayor Hobbs Declares June 7 Weed Out Hate DayJune 7, 2016 - Today has been proclaimed Weed Out Hate Day in Thunder Bay. Mayor Keith Hobbs along with children and staff from Little Lions Waldorf Daycare & Kindergarten and McKellar Park School planted sunflowers as a commitment to peace in Thunder Bay.
City Announces 2016 Canada Day FestivitiesJune 7, 2016 - The Recreation & Culture Division announced details of the upcoming Canada Day festivities, which are scheduled for Friday, July 1, at Marina Park.
With past attendance estimated at over 20,000, Canada Day remains Thunder Bay's largest annual single-day event.
