Residents Invited to Comment on Central Avenue Development Plan at Second Open House

Thunder Bay residents are invited to help shape the community’s future at an upcoming public open house on the Central Avenue Development Lands.

The open house will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 23 at the West Thunder Community Centre (915 Edward Street South).

This event builds on feedback received from the public earlier this year through an open house and public survey. That feedback helped shape a draft Preferred Development Plan, which will be presented for public review and comment at the open house.

The Central Avenue Development Lands project reflects the vision of the Smart Growth Action Plan, a shared roadmap for building a stronger, more connected Thunder Bay. Through Action R6, it supports thoughtful growth by expanding housing opportunities and investing in the infrastructure needed to support complete communities, while planning neighbourhoods where people can live, work and belong.

Developing this area, which covers about 40 hectares of land between Golf Links Road and Balmoral Street, also contributes to the City's plans to support construction of 2,200 new homes by 2031. The Central Avenue Development Lands will provide a mix of housing options, including missing middle and multi-unit developments, helping to create a more diverse and affordable housing market.
