Cooking remains the leading cause of residential loss fires in Ontario, but by following a fire safe recipe, disaster can be avoided.

A growing number of calls involving homeowners and contractors hitting natural gas lines while digging has led to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue now charging to respond to this type of call.

If a homeowner or contractor has not requested a locate, and a gas line is severed or damaged, Fire Rescue will charge the current MTO Rate for each response vehicle that is sent to the specific call.

Effective 4 pm today, July 11, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will lift the fire ban. All recreational fire permits will be reinstated for burning starting at 5 pm this evening.

Effective immediately, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has issued a fire ban on all outdoor open air burning within the City of Thunder Bay.

Mayor Ken Boshcoff has issued an official declaration terminating the municipal emergency that began on April 23, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

To find ways to safely serve the vulnerable population with the help that they need during the pandemic, the Isolation Shelter Command Team was established in April 2020 to reduce the spread of COVID-19 among individuals experiencing homelessness and precarious housing, and to mitigate risks associated with outbreaks in emergency shelters and within the community.

Meeting three times weekly, the Command Team is a subsection of the Vulnerable Populations COVID-19 Planning Table that was established.
