    Public Asked to Help Keep Fire Hydrants Clear of Snow

    With the recent accumulation of snow, Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue would like to ask residents for their assistance in expediting the process of keeping fire hydrants clear of snow.

     

    Please do not cover or block fire hydrants when removing snow from your driveway and where possible clear access.

  • Bearskin Lake First Nation Evacuees Begin Return Home

    Residents of Bearskin Lake First Nation that were evacuated to Thunder Bay recently due to flooding in their home community are beginning to return home today.

    Multiple flights are scheduled over the next few days to transfer the over 150 residents that have been hosted in Thunder Bay since November 14.

  • City to Host Flooding Evacuees from Bearskin Lake First Nation

    The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive approximately 180 people from Bearskin Lake First Nation over the course of the next 48 hours as the community declared a state of emergency on Sunday due to an ice jam along the Severn River, causing water to rise rapidly close by.

    Large amounts of ice and water are already covering up main roadways including those to the airport.

    Residents Reminded to Follow the Fireworks By-law and Stay Safe

    Residents are reminded that fireworks within the city can only be discharged during specified holidays and the three days leading up to them. Holidays which permit fireworks include: New Year’s Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, New Year’s Eve, and the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year).

  • City to Host Forest Fire Evacuees from Pikangikum First Nation (1)

    The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive approximately 300 people from Pikangikum First Nation over the course of the next 48 hours as the community reported that they require immediate evacuation of their vulnerable population due to heavy smoke impacting the community and affecting public health and wellness.

    The city will also serve as a transportation hub to assist with travel to other host communities across Ontario.

  • TBFR Handles Potential Hazmat Incident at Bank of Montreal at Red River Ave/Court St.

    Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded to a report of an unknown substance found inside the banking institution just after noon time today. The incident was dispatched to Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) as a hazardous materials incident due to the unknown characteristics of the substance that was encountered by staff in the building.

  • TBFR Responds to Garage Fire/Fort William First Nation

    Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded to a structure fire involving a large vehicle garage near a residential home on Fort William First Nation Reserve at approximately 10:30 am today.     First arriving crews were met with heavy smoke conditions inside of a garage with heavy fire involving the rear interior of the garage and spreading quickly towards the front half of the garage.

  • Water Rescue Ends with a Successful Rescue of a Young Female and her Dog

    Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded at 14:51 to a High/Low Angle rescue at Centennial Park’s off leash Dog Park. During our response to this scene further information was received that a young female had entered the water to retrieve her dog both becoming stranded.

  • Hazelwood Drive Vehicle Fire Sends One to Hospital

    Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded to a report of a “loader on fire” on Hazelwood Dr.    

    A large plume of smoke could be seen by responding crews from several miles away.
