Cumberland Street Renewal Project
The City of Thunder Bay continues its downtown revitalization efforts with the reconstruction of a portion of Cumberland Street to introduce extended patio space, decorative concrete, and landscaping to the downtown core. The project also involves replacement of sanitary sewers and watermains.
Starting the week of June 8th, the project will begin its first phase with the closure of Cumberland Street between Pearl and Park Streets. Phase 2 will extend from Park Avenue to Red River Road. Phases 3 and 4, which include Red River Road to Van Norman Street and Van Norman Street to Tupper Street, are anticipated to begin in 2027.
Local businesses will remain open throughout the construction, with pedestrian access always maintained. For a complete list of businesses in the area, visit the Waterfront District’s online directory.
