November 6, 2025 – Drivers in Thunder Bay will soon experience a new way to move through one of the city’s busiest intersections. The highly anticipated roundabout at Cumberland and Water Streets will be open to traffic in the late afternoon on November 7, 2025.

The City of Thunder Bay is sharing details of construction projects expected to impact vehicle, cycling, and pedestrian travel in September.

 The City is investing $55 million in 2025 to fund crucial infrastructure work including road rehabilitation, sidewalk replacement, sewer and watermain repairs and replacements, and bridge and culvert renewal.

The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that the Pacific Avenue Overpass will be temporarily closed for inspection. The overpass will be closed daily during working hours and reopened each evening once work is completed for the day.

On Tuesday, July 29 the City will conduct storm sewer repairs on Waterloo Street South including the replacement of a storm sewer catchbasin and the associated sewer lead crossing the roadway.

To facilitate this work, beginning July 29 at 8:00 am, Waterloo Street South will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic between Arthur Street East and Begin Street East.

Carrick Street from 11^th Avenue to Hewitson Street, and Hewitson Street from Russell Street to Carrick Street, will reopen late this afternoon. The streets had been closed since Feb.
