Lakes are a great, free way to cool off during the warm summer months. However, lakes can contain bacteria which may make swimming unsafe for residents. Regular water quality checks are done to ensure swimming is safe. Please check the Thunder Bay District Health Unit website for the most up-to-date water quality status of swimming areas.
The 2026 Summer supervision season is now over. Check back in Spring for opening and closure dates. All swims at Boulevard Lake are free for the general public. We hope to see you again next year!

Unsupervised beaches
Boulevard Lake also features two unsupervised swimming areas: Sandy Cove, located off Lyon Blvd West, north of Lakeview Beach, and Sunny Side Beach off Lyon Blvd. East.
The 2026 Summer supervision of Sandy Beach is now over. Check back in the Spring for 2027 opening and closure dates. All swims at Sandy Beach are free for the general public. We hope to see you again next year!
Location: Sandy Beach Road off City Road
Chippewa Park also offers unsupervised swimming at the Main Beach.
Splash pads are a great way to cool off and get exercise in the summer months and are free to people of all ages.
Location: County Park Splash Pad is located in the city's north end on County Park Blvd. The nearest major intersection is Dawson Road & East Ave.
Hours of operation: Open seven days a week from 11 am to 8 pm, from late June to September (weather permitting).
Closed for the season on September 15.
Location: Franklin Street Splash Pad is located in the city's south end at the corner of Franklin Street and Miles Street (215 Franklin St. North). The nearest major intersection is Victoria & Franklin.
Hours of operation: Open seven days a week from 11 am to 8 pm, from late June to early September (weather permitting).
Note that the splash pad cycles off for 15 minutes periodically throughout the day to allow the pad to drain.
Closed for the season on September 3.
Location: Marina Park Splash Pad is located adjacent to the Water Garden Pavilion at Prince Arthur's Landing.
Open: June 15 to September 14
(weather permitting, subject to seasonal conditions)
Lodge hours: 9am to 9pm daily
Splash Pad hours: 11am to 8:30pm daily
